About the project
In 2013 The Department of Arts and Culture commissioned Koketso Growth (Pty) Ltd to design, produce and install a 9m bronze figure of the late former president of South Africa Nelson Mandela. Following a remarkable turnaround time the figure was unveiled by the current president Jacob Zuma in front of Pretoria’s Union Buildings on 16 December 2013, 11 days after the passing of Nelson Mandela himself.
Importance
Today the tremendous statue stands prominently on the terraces of the iconic Union Buildings, arms spread out in an embracing gesture, an everlasting commemorative symbol and tribute to the great leader. It is a site which it is hoped will bring great joy to many South Africans, as an attraction and a testament of South Africa’s liberation and achievement as a unified nation.
Our Role
To meet the requirements of one of the largest sculpture projects ever undertaken in South Africa, Koketso Growth offered a turn-key service and managed and implemented the entire project from inception to the final unveiling of the statue.
